How Does
It Work?
Community
Supported Agriculture (CSA), is a way for the food buying public to
create a relationship with a farm and to receive a weekly "share" of
what the farmer produces. Typically, CSAs have been associated with fresh
fruits and vegetables, but as more consumers are looking to purchase directly
from the farmer, different CSA types, such as those that include meats, eggs
and other value-added products like artisan breads and preserves, have
emerged.
For the Keswick
Creamery Dairy CSA, members pick the size of share and the pick-up day. On the
morning of the scheduled pick-up, we will fill your milk jar, put your milk
and selected items into a bag and place it inside the CSA refrigerator located
at the Keswick Creamery Cheese Shop located at 185 Quigley Road in Newburg,
PA. Members can pick up their shares on Friday between 11 AM and 6 PM or
Saturday between 9 AM and 2 PM.
Why A
CSA?
Two reasons.
First, operating a farm and a creamery are literally two separate business and
requires most of our time. It is logistically impossible for us to stop what
we are doing when numerous customers arrive at different times throughout the
day. Additionally, we have found that customers who seek out raw milk also
want other dairy products including cheese and yogurt. The CSA offers a
win-win situation for both our customers and our family. Once a year, we hold
an open house for our customers so they can visit with us and tour the
farm.
Please
Don't Ask Us To Break the Laws
Currently, a
huge debate has been taking place as to the legality of raw milk licensing. We
support the licensing of raw milk and dairy products. Under the terms of our
license, raw milk can only be picked up by the customer at our farm. Please do
not ask us to transport raw milk to farmers markets or your home. For
out-of-state customers, we do not ship or transport fluid raw milk under the
auspices of "pet food."
